ChEESE - High Performance Computing for solid earth geosciences

The ChEESE project establishes a Center of Excellence in High Performance Computing to address scientific, technical, and societal challenges in the solid earth geosciences. Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is the coordinator of ChEESE, which is funded from the European Union's Horizon 2020 programme. Natural phenomena such as earthquakes, volcanoes, and tsunamis pose a significant hazard for society, and understanding the processes involved is key to being able to mitigate the associated effects.

FRISK - storage risk related to faults in reservoirs

The FRISK research project focus on the risk related to faults in reservoirs under consideration for CO2 storage. The work will form the basis for identifying uncertainties associated with faults and contribute to qualification of faulted reservoirs as safe CO2 storage sites.

Knaben mining landfill - status and measures

NGI has carried out an assessment of the status of the sand landfill after the closed Knaben Molybdenum mines in Kvinesdal municipality in Agder, Southern Norway. An assessment has also been made of possible measures to secure the landfill against mass flight, ie transport of sand masses by water and wind.

Methodology for securing buildings against floods and landslides

NGI and PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) have been engaged as consultants in a project that has developed a new methodology for assessing the overall need to secure existing buildings against floods and landslides. The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE) was the client and project manager.

NATWIP - nature based solutions for water problems in the peri-urban

The NATWIP project “Nature Based Solutions for Water Management in the Periurban” aims to contribute to closing the water cycle gap by exploring the potentials that Nature Based Solutions (NBS) offer to address water management challenges in landscape areas that have been neglected because they lie in the transition zones between the urban and the rural, referred to as periurban areas.
