WP3: New modelling and prediction approaches for tailings
WP3: New modelling and prediction approaches for tailings
WP3 will create predictive capability of the tailings behaviour under variable conditions.
WP3 will identify tailings dam failure modes and develop methods to do state-of-the-art deterministic and probabilistic analyses to model these modes (liquefaction, strain softening) and their potential consequences for humans and environment.
The modelling undertaken will include:
TSF stability; liquefaction of tailings (with links to modelling of strain-softening behavior, extending on-going research at NGI), erosion and piping
Hydrological modelling and dam break analyses, including runout (with links to quick clay runout modelling, tsunami modelling and BING CLAW software)
Geochemical and hydrogeological modelling of contaminant transport, including acid rock drainage and other weathering processes.
