WP2 - Pore pressure and injection

All building activities that take place below the ground water table present a risk related to the drainage of water. In areas with clay, drainage results in a decrease in pore pressure, settlements and the risk of damage to existing buildings. Development in urban areas with intersecting influence zones result in an increased risk related to a reduction in pore pressure as they influence the same areas.

Stricter requirements are needed in order to maintain pore pressure levels, which in turn will result in consequent requirements related to the water tightness of the grouting. There is a clear need to better follow up grouting works using pore pressure monitoring in order to reduce negative effects of the construction work on surrounding buildings.

The tasks defined in this WP include testing of a newly developed method to monitor pore pressures, investigating the relationship between geology, water ingress, grouting and pore pressure reduction. In the work package a full scale grouting test using colloidal silica is planned.
