Anchor Design - Scarborough FPU

Woodside Energy is advancing the Scarborough project, located at the Scarborough Gas Field, approximately 375 km west-northwest of the Burrup Peninsular in the North-West of Australia. The initial phase of this project encompasses the installation of eight wells, all linked to a semi-submersible floating production unit (FPU). The FPU will be anchored close to the Scarborough gas field in 950 m of water.

The FPU will be moored to the seabed using suction anchors. The suction anchors are to be installed before the FPU arrives at the site. The FPU will be connected to the suction anchors through mooring chains.

NGI was contracted by McDermott to carry out the detailed geotechnical design of these suction anchors. This involved reviewing the soil conditions at the Scarborough site and designing appropriately sized anchors for the design loading and the carbonate soil conditions of the site. The design was performed by NGI's team in Perth, Australia.
